What’s going on?
Entered the Arts and Letters Competition, Percy Janes First Novel Award. http://www.btcrd.gov.nl.ca/artsculture/artsandletters/pdf/percy_janes_reg.pdf
and the word limit was 100,000. My “Full Meal Deal” was 218,502… This was a last minute decision to enter, so lots of burning the candle at both ends… I been working on this novel for 10 years – time to put it out there!
Wow. Are you saying you had to cut your MS down to 100,000? That surely couldn’t be the same novel.
The story is about an ethical dilemma in a therapy relationship, told from alternating points of view: therapist and client. That hasn’t changed. But lots of journal entries were scrapped, and several subplots and themes were condensed, or omitted.
I’m going to enter another competition, http://wanl.ca/literary-awards/newfoundland-and-labrador-credit-union-fresh-fish-award/ one without a word limit, so am going to resurrect a few darlings!
I just saw your comment. The theme of the therapy relationship sounds interesting. I guess you’re still waiting for the results of both competition.
Well, I didn’t win the first one, and the second one isn’t happening… And I’ve realized you were right, it wasn’t the same novel with all that chopping, so I’m back at the drawing board – yet again…!
